About Urbana, Maryland:
The town of Urbana was first settled in 1730. Nearby Monocacy National Battlefield offers a delve into history with the site of The Civil War Battle that saved Washington, D.C. In the summer of 1864, General Jubal Early led Confederate forces towards Washington, D.C. and threatened to capture the capital city. On July 9, Union troops under General Lew Wallace met Early's forces at Monocacy. At the park visitors can experience stories of the past in a landscape that has changed little since the 19th century. Urbana is also home to the Landon House, a historic mansion once owned by Confederate General Jeb Stuart and was used as a hospital during the war, both Union and Confederate troops were treated at Landon House. The buzz in town today is that the Landon House is “haunted” and is quite the tourist attraction in the area.
“Visionaries had plans for this “one horse town”, so conveniently located to commuter routes: I-270 north to Pennsylvania, and to points south, Montgomery County, MD, the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia and I-70 E to Baltimore and W to Hagerstown and West Virginia. Today, Urbana is a vibrant planned community blending old town charm with modern sophistication. The newest addition to the community is the long awaited grocery store.
